Bullfinch

It was another gloomy, grey day but at least it felt drier than yesterday. I got up with the sincere intention of going over to Chat Moss to try and get that hoodie onto my year list but by the time I'd brewed a cup of tea I'd decided I couldn't be doing with negotiating my way around the Sunday buses.

It turned out to be a colourful day in the garden. The ring-necked parakeet striking poses in the rowan tree was camera shy, the male bullfinch that turned up at lunchtime wasn't.

Now the squirrels have finished the hips I can give the dog rose a hard prune

Over on the school playing field today's variation on a theme of large gulls was seven herring gulls, all but two of them first-year birds, a common gull and a lesser black-back.
