Wet'n'windy

The milder weather that arrived yesterday coincided withe some torrential rain. Today was largely drier, in large part because the extremely gusty winds made it excellent drying weather. Until it started raining again. The small birds were keeping their heads down and I couldn't say I blamed them. The spadgers and long-tailed tits are making a strong case for my not finishing cutting back the rambling rose though the stronger case for doing it is that it will take over half the street given the merest opportunity.

Over the road forty-odd black-headed gulls, five herring gulls and a lesser black-back hunkered down in the field. Every so often a brave gull would fly up to the usual rooftop vantage point then think better of it before its feet touched a slate.

I popped round to Davyhulme Retail Park to get some bird food (the feeders have been getting some hammer this week). As I was waiting for the bus home I heard a lot of squawking. It turned out to be a herring gull chasing a buzzard over the chimney tops. I'd just been thinking I hadn't seen any of the Trafford Centre buzzards in ages.
