As always the Big Garden Birdwatch involved a degree of subterfuge. If the feathered hooligans know that's what I'm doing they stay hiding on the embankment. This year I borrowed from Sherlock Holmes, putting a pillow on the sofa on the seat with its back to the window and putting a cloth cap on it then conducting the birdwatch from the bedroom window. The things you have to do. Then to top it all I had problems submitting the records on the website on my mobile 'phone. I'll have to have another go via the laptop. The surprising number of gulls is down to their being evicted from the school playing field for a girls' football tournament. The buzzard was a bonus, it was being seen off the territory by the carrion crows and wandered this way.
