Black-tailed godwits, Leighton Moss

Public transport routes and services change and are sometimes axed completely. I'll try to update any changes as soon as I find out about them. Where bus services have been cancelled or renamed I'll strike through the obsolete bus number to mark this change.

Local patch

Barton Clough

Another day, another dawn chorus, just the two blackbirds and a woodpigeon today, the garden warbler, robin and collared dove having a hearty breakfast before joining the choir.

  • 2 Blackbird
  • 1 Blue Tit
  • 2 Collared Dove
  • 1 Dunnock
  • 1 Feral Pigeon
  • 1 Garden Warbler
  • 3 Goldfinch
  • 8 House Sparrow
  • 1 Magpie
  • 1 Robin
  • 2 Starling
  • 3 Woodpigeon
  • 1 Wren

I had an afternoon stroll round the local patch, the usual bank holiday weather not quite managing to work its way up to raining. It felt very quiet for warblers but looking back at my records it's exactly the same as this time last year. Historically we're missing a couple of whitethroats (the territories in the bramble patches that were strimmed to the ground a couple of winters ago) and one each of chiffchaff and blackcap (down at the end nearest the warehouses, for some reason I don't understand).

  • 13 Blackbird
  • 1 Blackcap
  • 5 Blue Tit
  • 2 Carrion Crow
  • 1 Chaffinch
  • 2 Chiffchaff
  • 2 Dunnock
  • 2 Feral Pigeon overhead
  • 13 Goldfinch
  • 2 Great Tit
  • 3 Greenfinch
  • 1 Herring Gull overhead
  • 7 House Sparrow
  • 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull overhead
  • 9 Magpie
  • 9 Robin
  • 1 Song Thrush
  • 3 Starling
  • 2 Whitethroat
  • 9 Woodpigeon
  • 3 Wren
